FACEBOOK ADDICTION? UNO STUDIO SU STILI RELAZIONALI E CARATTERISTICHE DISFUNZIONALI IN SOGGETTI CON DIVERSE TIPOLOGIE DI UTILIZZO DEL SOCIAL NETWORK

Background: Previous studies on individual characteristics related to Facebook usage seems to support that active Facebook users are more likely to be higher in attachment anxiety or in extraversion, but specific interpersonal profiles of individual’s Facebook usage are still missing in the literature. The aims of the current study were: a) to investigate whether there is a specific interpersonal profile of Facebook users, and b) to explored the contribution of participants’ personality and interpersonal relationship characteristics on their profile group membership. Methods: We investigated a group of 811 subjects (aged from 17 to 61 years) with questionnaires measuring personality traits,…

Empirically-derived subgroups of Facebook users and their association with personality characteristics: a Latent Class Analysis

2018

Abstract In recent years, considerable research effort has been directed at the identification of relationships between psychological variables and Facebook usage indicators. However, the identification of homogeneous subgroups of individuals based on similar Facebook usage characteristics still presents a challenge. This study aims: (1) to empirically determine homogeneous groups of Facebook users based on variables regarding their personal experience on Facebook, by using a Latent Class Analysis; and (2) to examine the association between an individual's personality and interpersonal characteristics and the empirically-derived profiles of Facebook usage. Eight hundred and eleven Facebook …

The Dietary Inflammatory Index and asthma burden in children: A latent class analysis

2021

Introduction: Unbalanced dietary intake has been increasingly recognized as an important modifiable risk factor for asthma. In this study, we assessed whether a pro-inflammatory diet is associated with higher asthma burden in three steps: (1) identification of asthma latent classes (LC) based on symptoms, indoor exposures, and pulmonary function; (2) identification of risk factors associated with LC membership; and (3) estimation of the probabilities of LC membership with variation in DII. Methods: A cross-sectional study on 415 children aged 5–14 years (266 with persistent asthma and 149 controls). LC analysis was performed in asthmatic children. The DII was calculated based on a semiquant…

Accuracy of the water-siphon test associated to barium study in a high prevalence gastro-oesophageal reflux disease population: a novel statistical a…

2010

Abstract RATIONALE, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is 'a condition which develops when the reflux of gastric content causes troublesome symptoms or complications'. Instrumental diagnostic tests generally used for GORD are 24-hour pH-metry and upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy but barium study associated with provocative manoeuvres such as the water-siphon test (WST), has also been used for GORD. The aim of this paper was to estimate the accuracy of several tests in patients with GORD in a tertiary care setting, focusing on WST, which is rapid and non-invasive, simple to perform and well-tolerated by patients. METHOD: A total of 172 consecutive patients, sy…

Endotyping allergic rhinitis in children: A machine learning approach.

2021

Introduction: The diversity of allergic rhinitis (AR) phenotypes is particularly evident in childhood, suggesting the need to analyze and identify new approaches to capture such clinical heterogeneity. Nasal cytology (NC) is a very useful diagnostic tool for identifying and quantifying nasal inflammation. Data-driven approaches such as latent class analysis (LCA) assign subjects to classes based on their characteristics. We hypothesized that LCA based on NC, including the assessment of neutrophils, eosinophils, and mast cells, may be helpful for identifying AR endotypes in children. Methods: A total of 168 children were enrolled. Sociodemographic characteristics and detailed medical history…

Barriers and incentives for Italian paediatricians to become smoking cessation promoters: a GARD-Italy Demonstration Project

2020

Background: Paediatricians rarely devote any time to screening and treatment for parental tobacco use. The present project is part of a Global Alliance against Chronic Respiratory Diseases (GARD)-Italy Demonstration Project, aimed to increase the skills of primary care physicians and paediatricians as "promoter of smoking cessation". The aims of this study were: (I) to identify latent classes of barriers and incentives for smoking cessation counseling among paediatricians using latent class analysis (LCA); (II) to investigate risk factors for inclusion into the identified classes. Methods: In 2018, 1,500 Italian paediatricians were invited to complete an online survey on passive smoke expos…

The Psychometric properties of the resilience scale (RS-14) in Lithuanian adolescents

2021

In the current study, we provided the evidence of satisfactory validity of the RS-14 scale in the Lithuanian adolescents’ sample (N = 1299; Mage = 14.24; SDage = 1.26), based on its internal structure, and relations to other variables. The results of the study indicated an acceptable model fit for a single-factor structure of the scale with a high internal consistency (McDonald’s omega = 0.89). We also confirmed the scalar measurement invariance across groups of adolescents in terms of their age (i.e., early and middle adolescence) and mental health profile as well as partial scalar gender invariance. Adolescents characterized by high levels of socio-emotional problems reported lower levels…

Religious tourism and subjective well being: an empirical analysis in hajj pilgrimage

2018

Abstract This study entitled “Religious Tourism and Subjective Well-Being (SWB): An Empirical Analysis in Hajj Pilgrimage” investigated the influence of religious tourism on subjective well-being (SWB) in the case of Hajj pilgrims. The primary aim of the study was to investigate the geographic, demographic and socio-economic factors that may have considerable effects on the Hajj pilgrims’ well-being and life satisfaction. The study is conducted through an analytical methodology in which a sheer quantitative method was used involving an extensive questionnaire administered to a pool of 500 pilgrims from three continents, namely Asia, Africa and Europe in addition to pilgrims from the Gulf Co…
